Sony Responds To Lack Of PS3 Singstar Content
Singstar for the PS3 was supposed to be the future of the franchise, with one game released, and then downloadable content released online to increase the game’s longevity for the life of the console itself.
When we wrote about the release of the game way back in April 2007, we revealed how the game would come with 30 licensed tracks on the disc, and then have new songs released every month from June onwards. The first part came true, but the second part still has yet to happen.
The lack of new content available for download from the SingStore has lead to thousands of Singstar fans (mainly girls, and Celine Dion fans) complaining to Sony, and the game’s developer Singstar Studios.
The level of consternation even lead to an online petition being drawn up and signed by many disgruntled fans, which was then delivered to Sony.
Singstar Studios are still silent on the issue, further annoying those gamers who have made the company millions of dollars over the course of the PS2 and PS3’s life.
Thankfully, Sony has now done the fans the courtesy of responding. In a statement issued to Eurogamer, the company said:
“SingStar fans have been asking when the SingStore will be populated with more songs. Our original vision, as outlined in early preview coverage of SingStar, was to have more than 350 songs available on the SingStore. We are working hard to increase the volume of content as quickly as possible.”
“Eighteen new tracks will be live in the SingStore from 18th January - 15 English and 3 Spanish tracks - including songs from KT Tunstall, David Bowie and Blur. This will be followed by an update the week of 4th February, including tracks from The Editors and MC Hammer, and we will be updating the SingStore with new content twice monthly thereafter.”
“Thanks for your ongoing support.”
So finally, the problem is getting addressed, and those people who have sheled out their hard earned cash to play the game, and are increasingly getting bored of the 30 odd songs in the game, shouldn’t have too much longer to wait for some new content.
But the songs outlined amount to maybe 30 more, not the hundreds which were originally promised. What the hold up is, and whether it is the fault of Sony or Singstar Studios is unclear.
