Sega’s Aliens: Colonial Marines
This picture reminds me of my Grandpa’s favorite Bible verse, “And lo, Aliens and hot pirate chicks will gather and share many Papst Blue Ribbons.
Aliens fans, it’s time to get excited for some new Aliens action in your lives. Those lovable acid blooded, chest destroying Aliens are going to make another video game appearance, this time courtesy of Sega and developer Gear Box software. The game is titled Aliens: Colonial Marines and it is a squad based first person shooter. Unlike most games of it’s ilk, Colonial Marines promises to have different objectives for those playing co-operatively, which could lead to some great and unique co-op action. There will also be online multiplayer action, but Sega’s mum on that front.
Bradley Thompson and David Weedle are on board for writing the story for Colonial Marines. Thompson and Weedle are known for their work on the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek Deepspace Nine, so hopefully the addition of “real” writers will make the story a little more compelling than most games of this type offer.
Even more exciting to me is the fact that this is not an Aliens/Predator crossover. I love the peanut butter and jelly combination of Aliens and Predators, but sometimes I like going straight up old school Aliens. An aliens game is much more frightening when you’re only a lowly human and not some armed to the mandibles alien bad ass.
The worst part of all this cool news is the wait. Don’t expect Aliens Colonial Marines to hit store shelves until late 2008. Ouch.
