PS3 Trophies Not Retroactive
While playing GTA IV (I’m so close to the end I can taste it), I thought that it was a shame that I wouldn’t get any “trophies” (aka Achievements on the PS3) for my hard work. I wondered what kind of trophies I was missing as I was doing all kinds off crazy stuff in the game. Then I was comforted by the thought that when Sony rolled out the trophies in update v2.40, I’d probably get all the trophies I had earned retroactively.
I was wrong. If you are a PS3 owner and you want to get trophies and the games you own and have played through supported them, then you’ll have to go through the game again to earn your trophies. Insert the sound of Pac-Man dying here.
It’s also being reported that it’s up to developers if they want to include trophies. At this point I have to ask what the point of adding these things in. Face it Sony, you missed the boat and this shoehorning in of trophies isn’t going to have as great of an impact as it has on the 360. If you think I’m being biased, check out this article by Kotaku that illustrates how the in game XMB and Trophies aren’t as nice as we were all hoping they would be.
