Leland Yee Gets Panties In a Wad
California State Senator Leland Yee, one of the video game industry’s harshest critics, is pitching a fit today because of the recent announcement that Rockstar’s Manhunt 2 is finally receiving an M rating, setting it up for release in the United States on October 31st.
Upon hearing of the re-rating of Manhunt 2, Yee demanded that the ESRB reveal the specifics of why the game received the re-rating. Surprisingly enough, the ESRB seems to have finally decided to take a stand against government bullies, by refusing to reveal any information to the perturbed Senator.
Following the ESRB’s refusal to disclose the game’s newly redesigned content, ESRB president Patricia Vance released a statement in response. “Publishers submit game content to the ESRB on a confidential basis. It is simply not our place to reveal specific details about the content we have reviewed, particularly when it involves a product not yet released. What can be said is that the changes that were made to the game, including the depictions themselves and the context in which those depictions were presented, were sufficient to warrant the assignment of an M (Mature 17+) rating by our raters.”
However, much like every politician in Washington, instead of quitely admitting defeat in a public arena, Yee is now demanding the FTC investigate the ESRB’s trade practices.
Seriously man, there has got to be something better to do with your life than whine and bitch about a video game that you don’t agree with. It sickens me that American politicians are such tools.
Although if anything good has come of this recent fiasco, it’s that it is quite refreshing to actually hear the ESRB finally take a stand to defend themselves after all these years. Do I sense a change in the wind coming? I sure hope so.
