Halo Wars Demo Impressions
It’s finally here, the demo for one of the most highly anticipated RTS games of the year… at least from fans of Halo. I have been looking forward to it, because I fit in that category. The first “impression” that I had was that this demo takes forever to download. The thing is over a gig and it took my 360 with a great internet connection hours to download.
When I finally got it up and running I was pleased to see that the game has the same over all feel to the original Halo games as far as music and menus are concerned.
Look, I have to be honest. I don’t like RTS games. I never really have. Everything from resource management to controlling troops bothers me. I prefer the strategy found in turn based combat much more. So that makes me old… so what? Anyway, if you like RTS games than you should like this. The controls are about as good as they are ever going to get without a mouse and keyboard, so basically that mean it works but it’s certainly far from great.
Despite the shortcomings, I did like the demo. It helps a lot that the game is Halo themed, because otherwise I probably wouldn’t. What’s nice is that the cinematics are great for a fan, because it’s like watching the Halo movie that hasn’t come out yet.
So overall I’d say that despite the fact that it is an RTS game that wasn’t designed by Bungie, it looks good so far.
