Aerosmith Going Guitar Hero Exclusive
Gross.
It looks like Aerosmith is doing a huge favor to fans of Rock Band by agreeing to keep their “awesome” music exclusive to the Guitar Hero franchise. Apparently, Activision shoved bucketfuls of money Aerosmith’s way to help seal this kind of deal. I bet this comes at a much needed time, I hear Steven Tyler has been saving up for a new solid gold rocket car.
Seriously, this news is not good for fans of music based games at all. I don’t understand why the music instrument based rhythm games have to fight each other. It’s not like the games don’t appeal to both groups. One of the benefits of buying Rock Band was that I could justify my purchase because then I could buy Guitar Hero too. There’s a huge crossover potential between these games.
The only way I could see this in any sort of positive light is that it is kind of annoying to buy a game and have a double song. For example, if I buy SingStar and it has a STP song on it that I already have on Rock Band, then I’m less likely to enjoy it on SingStar since Rock Band allows you to have a lot more fun with the song with the addition of instruments.
If you need to have exclusives why not just do them on a per song basis? Guitar Hero has traditionally had songs that are more hardcore than Rock Band, so why can’t bands have songs that are exclusive to each game based on what kind of audience they are catering to?

So how do we, as consumers, convince the Guitar Hero and Rock Band people to not have exclusives, unless it is on a per song basis.

Good question. I’d say write to the company and make your complaints heard. If you write for a blog or website, bitch about it there. Maybe it will have an effect.
