A Game Based On Horror Flick ‘Saw’ In The Works
Oh wow, this is sure to have those tabloid newspaper hacks frothing at the mouth in anticipation of writing an ill researched, illogical hate piece about how all computer and video games are evil, and contributing to the downfall of civilised society.
But no, it’s just a new video game, albeit one based on the gory psychological horror film Saw, and it’s due to be released in October 2009.
Brash Entertainment, the game’s developers, held a press conference, where they showed journalists a teaser trailer featuring the Jigsaw puppet, the main protagonist from the original film, and its three (and counting) sequels.
Not much is yet known about the game, probably even by the game’s makers themselves, but a positive sign is that the people behind the films will be providing lots of input, hopefully helping this stay out of that pile known as ‘yet another crappy movie tie-in game’.
We don’t even know which console(s) the game will be appearing on, although the fact that it will run using the Unreal Engine 3 suggests that PS3 or Xbox 360, or both, is likely.
I kind of hope the game makers do something based around the films, but not directly aping them. Maybe instead of showing the awful crimes being committed, it could focus on the police’s efforts to catch the person (Jigsaw) behind it all. It’s known that the game will have a plot which intertwines around all four films released so far, but no details are yet know.
Brash Entertainment are a new publisher, launched just last year to focus on making good movie tie-in games, surely one of the holy grails of present day gamers. Saw is the only title officially announced by them although 300 has also been cited as a possible future project.
