40GB PS3 is Official! …in Europe
There have been rumors of a 40GB PS3 for a little while now, and today Sony Computer Entertainment Europe officially unveiled their new, cheaper 40GB model. What makes this 40GB model cheaper, besides the smaller HDD? It only includes 2 USB ports, and will not have the multi memory ports.
Oh, and there will be absolutely ZERO backwards compatibility. Have fun with that.
Now if you are living in Small Town, USA, you shouldn’t hold your breath for the 40GB console. As of now (October 5th), this particular model of the PS3 has been announced ONLY for Europe. While it’s possible to see this thing come stateside in time for Christmas, as of now it’s not. This evokes no great sadness from me, who considers backwards compatibility to be foremost in any console in the 21st century.
Also, and maybe I’m just thinking oddly because I’m floating on NyQuil right now, but didn’t the old 20GB PS3 have more features than this new 40GB one? I thought it at least had Backwards Compatibility.
